ABOUT

Ground is an urban platform for activating formerly vacant lots and buildings to restore Black use, beginning in Oakland.

We are beginning with a series of reimagined Black cornerstores, common spaces, storefronts, and homes.

Founded by visual artist Binta Ayofemi, Ground is creating new urban forms to revive Black craft and manufacturing, Black sustenance, Black housing and Black green spaces. As an artist, Binta reimagines urban forms.

We work with overlooked thresholds, previously muted buildings, land banked lots, and crucial urban corners, as a way to activate and transform our everyday economies, our everyday narratives, and possibilities.
